Powrie Took Retirement From Sailing
Powrie the veteran sailor has announced her retirement from the sport recently.
The sailor is just 29 and has a chance of being in the third Olympic as well. But, possibly, the desire for winning medals for the third time isn’t enough in her to resist her in taking this decision.
She is an accomplished sailor from New Zealand and has been the part of two Olympic Games. Powrie makes the team with Jo Aleh; this pair is popularly known as Team Jolly. Both forms one of most successful combination of New Zealand. Together they have won gold in the women’s 470 class at the 2012 London Olympics.
August’s Games in Rio the pair won silver medal. The last regatta of duo got him five medals in the world championship. She has many records on her name.
When asked about his decision of retirement, she said, “I have family and I have to take them into consideration. I believe, now I have nothing to achieve in the World of sailing. And now, I want to put myself into the new world, take new challenges and achieve it.”
Powrie has a degree in business and now she will utilize it to get a job in the property industry. However, she had not planned detach herself from sailing. She will remain associated with sailing as a weekend racer and also try hand on coaching new sailors.
She shared this news with her partner Aleh, as well. Tough, Aleh got a little surprised at the decision of Powrie but delighted for her. Aleh, on the hand is planning to try new things. Now, she is trying big boats and getting training for that.
She said, “I has eight good years with Powrie, and I know her very well. Her retirement is sad to me, but I am with her decision.”
